Cordel is like a time machine back to when news travelled through the voice of poets offering their booklets on a string (the Cordel) across the backlands of Northeastern Brasil.
Crato is the home of a group of people – The Academia dos Cordelistas do Crato – who made it their goal to preserve the culture of poetry and spoken word in Brasil. I met them during a research around the word and feeling of Saudade, which something like longing but not quite,
In order to take an attempt to explore Saudade, we co-created this poetry booklet in the form of Literature do Cordel. In fact, they did me this favor and asked one back: In exchange they asked to produce a short film about the History of Cordel.
